The walls around Damüls

Climbing holidays in Damüls, Vorarlberg

The walls around Damüls

During your activity holiday in Damüls you will be able to enjoy a great leisure programme. Climbing is without a doubt one of the most popular activities here. For families, couples, friends or alone, come and enjoy bouldering.

What is a holiday on the Alps without climbing? Here you will find a great variety of via ferratas and climbing crags. Beginners can join a taster course with an experienced mountain guide.

Climbing for beginners

Take part in one of the outdoor taster courses by and with mountain guide Thomas Schäfer. If you have only enjoyed climbing on an indoor wall yet, you will be surprised how different outdoor climbing is. Let Thomas Schäfer introduce you to the climbing techniques and learn tips and tricks.

At the Wandfluh climbing crag you will find perfect conditions for your first climbing attempts on a wall.

Wandfluh climbing crag

Located in Sonntag-Stein this climbing crag offers lots of fun no matter if you join a course or enjoy climbing independently with your climbing partner. You will climb here at 1,500m on the training grounds with difficulty levels varying from III+ to IV-. More advanced climbers can enjoy more challenging walls with difficulty levels between V+ and VII.

The 60 metre high wall faces west. Helmets are required. If you want to enjoy rope climbing you will need a 50 metre long rope and your own climbing gear.

Climbing crag on the Weißenbach

Between Au and Schnepfau you will find the climbing crag on the Weißenbach. On this gorgeous sun plateau you will enjoy climbing between the difficulty levels III-V. After the bypass tunnel the entrance is only accessibly by foot. The climbing highlight is the Jurakalkturm (IV-X) – a jura limestone tower.

Biberbacher hut climbing crag

The climbing crag at the Biberbacher hut at 1,846m offers climbing facilities with difficulty levels between III and VII. Come by car and drive to Buchboden from where you can take the public post bus to Ladnsteg.

Karhorn via ferrata

On the Karhorn you will find Vorarlberg's first via ferrata. The access is located about 30 minutes away from the Steffisalpbahn mountain station in Warth.

Part 1: east ridge to the summit
  • The ascent is relatively easy and also suitable for children. The climbing tour is located on the east ridge from the access point up to the peak with the difficulty levels B and C.
  • The special highlight is the outstanding mountain panorama during the whole way up to the summit, which gets even better once you are standing on the mountain top.
  • You can also access the trail at a later point, just take the Steffisalp-Express to the mountain station and from there walk to the Wartherhornsattel.
  • Descent on the Karhorn Massif's south face via a normal path to the Wartherhornsattel. From here you can take the cable car or walk back to the starting point.
  • The whole via ferrata takes about 2.5 hours. If you start at the Wartherhornsattel access it's only about 45 minutes.

Part 2: the west ridge

Ambitious climbers can climb further, starting from the Wartherhornsattel's peak. There is a 600 metre long extension to a long slab of rock on the west ridge; the difficulty levels here are C and D.

It's about another 1.5 hours from the mountain top to get there.

Descent via the Karhorn's south face on a normal path. Take a look at the interactive map.

Take a break at the Madlener Hotel
